Throwing a clay on a potters wheel gives immediate feedback on the insight-live.com/glossary/269">physical properties (e.g. texture, plasticity, degree of softness, tendency to split, etc). A fancy report full of numbers gathered from expensive testing equipment takes a lot more time and is not likely to be as valuable as this.
