A zero-frit transparent glaze hiding in a colored glaze

The glaze recipe promised more color than it delivered, but delivered something it did not promise, a good transparent. The orange is a mechanism of that transparent.

Notes

*Found on the internet. Although a few good pieces were made from it we found problems:

-It is inconsistent (because of sourcing the color from raw metal oxides)
-The orange is not as bright as desired
-What we got is very different from how the page online presented it
-It dries powdery, does not have enough clay

More importantly, a good clear might be hiding in this recipe (if we remove the colorants).

Notes

*This is quite powdery when dried. Try adding 1% Veegum, that will gel and harden it.

It applies well.
It fires glossy on verticals, but a little pebbly on the inside base of mugs. Needs to be fired using a drop and hold schedule.

As a transparent this has a few important advantages:

-It is just starting to melt at cone 02.
-It contains no frit

Pictures

When thick the glaze become pebbly

This also happens on the inside base of mugs.

The clear version of the glaze is on the insides of these two, it is crystal clear. This is impressive since the recipe contains no frit and no boron.

Notes

*This will test if we can get better color by adding some orange stain.

The silica has been switched to 325 mesh, this will enable better melting so it has also been increased a little also (to reduce the thermal expansion).
The VeeGum addition will make it dry harder and suspend better in the bucket.
