Pure Ravenscrag Slip, from Plainsman Clays, is a cone 10R transparent glaze recipe all by itself. With small additions, it can also produce opaque mattes and glossies.

Notes

*At 100% Ravenscrag Slip produces a silky gloss almost transparent glaze at cone 10R. It has a much more natural quality than a transparent made from refined mineral powders.

A glossy white can be produced with an addition of Zircopax (like GR10-CW).

Notes

*A stunning matte translucent base glaze that is achieved by a simple 10% addition of talc (it supplies the MgO to create the "dolomite matte" effect).

A mix of 1000 powder, 1000 water = ~1.42 specific gravity, producing a good slurry for use as a dipping glaze in our studio.

Notes

*The Zircopax addition increases the gloss and the opacity of the GR10-C base recipe.

In our lab 1000 powder and 920 water produce a good consistency for use as a dipping glaze.

The 52:35 ratio is being used (rather than the normal 45:45) to minimize cracking during drying and compensate for the zero LOI of the roast material.
