Notes

This adjusts the L3802E cone 10 Crystal Ice to mature at cone 6. The following changes were made:

Moved silica from 20 to 35.
NZK from 42 to 32
Nepheline from 34 to 29
Veegum to 4

The 4% Veegum produces high plasticity but also necessitates a lot of water to be able to slurry the material. The greatest benefit (best plastic, fewest drying cracks) are had when the plastic material is not too soft.

For the casting version, start with about 1% Veegum. If pieces crack during their time in the mold, increase the Veegum. If they cast too slow reduce it. If the glaze still crazes, increase silica to 40% and reduce the kaolin to 30 (this will mean that a little more Veegum will be needed). If more fired maturity is needed consider substituting 5% of the Nepheline for Frit 3110.

Notes

Brushing version made by blender mixing 340g powder, 440g water, 5g CMC, 6g Veegum. Paintability was very good. Drying is a little faster than normal so a little more CMC could be tolerated.

Used Plainsman Cone 6 Crystalline #1 schedule.

The Veegum is gelling to slurry so it is suspending well and not settling at all.

Left is GA6-BB, it contains plenty of clay and thus gels and holds well when paint on a glass surface. G3956A, since it has no clay at all must rely entirely on the added VeeGum to gel it. It works amazingly well (although a run did form on this test). The surface is hard and crack-free.

The L3802F gives much better color and crystal development (I think it was dipped rather than brushed).

No crazing and on tiny crystals, likely needs something to seed them better. Was applied by brushing.
