Notes

Found this recipe online.
It fires to a very soft silky surface that resists cutlery marking. Needs cone 04. I was expecting more of a calcia matte.

Fired this on L215 tile and 212 fired to cone 04 and found the surface had was silky matte but pinholed on L215.

Fired to cone 06 and it was a dry pig skin. Yak

The dolomite and whiting should be switched for lower LOI sources.

Notes

This employs wollastonite and talc to source more MgO and less CaO (to get a more silky magnesia matte surface and less of a calcia matte).

L215 mug: Very silky and almost white because of the calcium silicate crystals. Should be moved to more MgO, less CaO.

Notes

Duplicated from reference recipe G2805C.
This doubles the MgO to move toward a full magnesia matte.

This has not been tested.
Replace EPK with Grolleg or NZK if possible.

Notes

Altered from G2931K glossy. This goes full-bore magnesia matte, with 0.4 molar MgO. And it pours on the B2O3 to ensure good melting. And moves to a low Si:Al ratio, more typical in magnesia mattes.
This sourced MgO from a frit instead of talc.
Not quite matte at cone 03, but likely would be better at cone 04. Especially with a slow cool firing.

1000 grams powder plus 725 water produced SG of 1.46. Was thin, Epsom salts worked well to gel it.

Pictures

Not quite matte yet (at cone 03 on L215)

This has the chemistry to be a matte but it is still fairly glossy. Will try magcarb.

G2931K with MagCarb

The matteness has improved. It would just take a little more MagCarb.
